A Warm Welcome

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details below) for our Sunday Service starting at 10.45am. We have a large (free) car park next to the church.  For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you will be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

We normally serve tea and coffee in our lounge after the service ends, although this is suspended at the moment due to Covid Restrictions, but shall (hopefully) resume on 25th July. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings.  All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access from the car park via a ramp, and we have electric (button controlled) access doors.  We also have an induction sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival if you need any assistance. There are accessable toilets near the entrance.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.45am with a welcome from our Minister, or whoever is leading worship. Then follows a time of worship. We typically have 4 or 5 songs during the service.  In our Morning Service we usually have more traditional Hymns, played normally on our Organ, from a Hymn Book called 'Baptist Praise and Worship'.  Copies of the Hymn Book will be on your seat, where they were placed 72 hours before to prevent the spread of viruses.

We have a 'briefing' section, which tells us about what is happening in the church, and one of our members will read some passages from the bible.

One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We usually pray for others (know as Prayers of Intercession) and we then finish with a final worship song of praise.

Our evening service (temporarily suspended during Covid) is slightly more contemporary.  We use our Piano or recorded music for worship, with the Hymns being from 'Mission Praise' or on the screen, if more modern.  As Ilkley has few evening services, our congregation tends to be ecumenical, with people from all churches and backgrounds.

What about kids?

Our congregation usually ranges in age from 50-100.  We do, however, have children coming with grandparents or with visitors:

Children normally stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, first two songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family, so you can stay together if you wish, or children's activities are normally run by two of our Deacons - Leri and Deborah.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.
